Ensemble Types
We welcome concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, and other ensembles at all skill levels. If you have a special ensemble need, let us know and we'll work with you to provide your students a great performance experience regardless of the ensemble type.
Instrument Cases and Clothing
Please leave all instrument cases on your bus or truck. Also, please arrive dressed for your performance. The restroom area is small and inadequate for changing clothes.
Literature Requirements
Each group will perform a program of their choosing. There are no required pieces, but each group must perform at least two works.
Percussion Equipment
Percussion equipment on stage will be bass drum, bells, xylophone, vibes, marimba, chimes, and four tympani. There will be no sticks or mallets available. Snare drums, cymbals, or other small equipment are not provided. If you need a piano, we need your request one week in advance.
Risers
The use of risers will not be allowed on stage. Due to the acoustics of the hall, risers do not enhance the performance or recording. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Warm-Up Time
A dedicated warm-up room is provided. Groups move in 30 minutes before their scheduled performance. Percussion in the warm-up room is limited.
Performance Time
Each performing block is set for 30 minutes. If you require more time, please notify us in advance.
Adjudication
Performances are evaluated by a panel of highly qualified music educators. Written comments are provided to each director via email at the conclusion of the performance. Adjudicator decisions are final. Score protests or appeals are not accepted.
Rating System
Ensembles earn a division I, II, or Participant. A rating of I (Superior) is the highest honor. An ensemble must make a Division 1 to be considered for Outstanding in Class or Outstanding Overall. An Outstanding Overall is awarded to the top varsity group of the day regardless of class or ensemble type.
Awards
Awards are presented at the end of the day. Outstanding in Class awards are given in each varsity Class when there is more than one ensemble in the class. Non-varsity groups do not compete for Outstanding awards. Rating awards are given at the festival while Outstanding awards are delivered to the ensemble at the conclusion of the event. Groups may enter for comments only if desired.
